We are looking for a certified registered technician proficient in nerve conduction studies. You will be joining a quality-oriented team of one fellowship-trained neuromuscular neurologist and one physiatrist. We offer a competitive wage and benefits package.
Summary
Measures, by means of an electromyograph, impulses, frequencies and differences in evoked potential tests between various areas of the body to obtain data for use in diagnosis of nerve conduction studies. Prepares all IS transactions to ensure patient information and exam results are recorded in a timely manner for patient medical record and billing purposes.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Registered Nerve Conduction Studies Tech (R. NCS)
• Successful completion of an electroneurodiagnostic technologist program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health or equivalent education/experience.
• CPR certification
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
• Previous clinic and/or hospital experience
• Medical Terminology
• Basic understanding of infection control
• Ability to prioritize workload and assignments
• Ability to follow through and complete assignments in a timely fashion
• Possess compassion and the ability to work well with others in a team-oriented setting
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to interact with patients and co-workers effectively and professionally
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Obtains patient history, including problems and behaviors.
• Explains and prepares patient for NCS procedure, including making him or her as comfortable as possible.
• Measures electrical activity in peripheral nerves, using electromyograph (EMG) instrument, for use by physician in diagnosing neuromuscular disorders: Explains procedures to patient to obtain cooperation and relieve anxieties during test.
• Applies electrode gel on patient's skin to ensure contact of electrodes.
• Attaches surface recording electrodes to limb in which activity is being measured to detect electrical impulse
• Attaches electrodes to electrode cables or leads connected to EMG instrument and selects nerve conduction mode on EMG.
• Operates EMG instrument to record electrical activity in peripheral nerves.
• Activates surface stimulator electrode to deliver electrical stimulus to depolarize peripheral nerve.
• Monitors response on computer monitor display and records nerve conduction velocity.
• Measures and records time and distance between stimulus and response, manually or using computer, and calculates velocity of electrical impulse in peripheral nerve.
• Removes electrodes from patient upon conclusion of test and cleans electrode gel from skin.
• Completes paperwork, including charge slips for NCS and complete records on all normal and abnormal NCS for time periods established by protocol.
• Cleans and maintains equipment, including requesting maintenance repairs.
• Coordinate and organize supplies, equipment, and instruments needed for procedures.
• Backs up data regularly.
