Job Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of therapeutic processes and counseling techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of the characteristics and social aspects of mental and emotional disturbances, mental retardation, and trauma. Education and/or experience with sexual abuse, anger management, marriage and family therapy.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, procedures, techniques, trends and literature of social work.
- Thorough knowledge of the various areas of social work, including group work, community organization, consultation, education and research.
- Thorough knowledge of the scope and activities of public and private health and welfare agencies and community organizations.
- Considerable knowledge of the basic sciences underlying social work.
- Considerable knowledge of mental health education and in-service training techniques.
- Considerable knowledge of current trends in mental hygiene, public health and public welfare, and federal and state programs in these fields.
- Some knowledge of program planning and evaluation.
- Ability to establish and maintain the confidence and cooperation of others.
- Ability to formulate individual treatment plans.
- Ability to coordinate and provide clinical consultation to patients in restrictive settings (i.e.: children in foster care; adults in adult foster care settings, employment).
- Ability to plan a clinical program.
- Ability to provide consultation for other discipline providers.
- Ability to integrate the program with that of other disciplines.
- Ability to write and speak effectively.
Clinical Social Worker Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Social Work required. Current, valid Michigan Licensed MSW (not LLMSW). Two (2) years experience in clinical Social Work. Maintains strict confidentiality in accordance with the standards of Indian Health Services; National Association of Social Workers; and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. Knowledge and experience working with theNative American culture and lifeways preferred. Minimum standards of character: Must not have been found guilty of, or entered a plea of nolo contendere or guilty to, any felonious offense or 2 or more misdemeanor offenses involving (under federal, state or tribal law; violations from other states will be interpreted according to the Michigan Penal Code):Crimes of violence, sexual assault, molestation, exploitation, contact with or prostitution, crimes against persons, offenses committed against children, child abuse or neglect. Employment is contingent upon the satisfactory result of a Security Background Check, preemployment drug testing and a pre-employment physical.
Job Responsibilities:
Serves as a professional Social Worker and as a primary therapist. Provides clinical and therapeutic mental health services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: - Serves as a professional Social Worker, performing without immediate casework supervision; serves as a primary therapist, with responsibility for assessment and determining the treatment program for individual patients and for groups of patients.
- Provide clinical and therapeutic mental health services, such as: direct patient care, mental health, patient and general health behavior and compliance, substance and chemical abuse, family conflict (domestic violence, maternal and child health and child welfare), socio-economic induced depression and stress.
- Conduct attendant and adjunct services i.e., case finding, referral, and assessment to determine need and extent of service required.
- Conducts mental health observation, acts as mental health consultant to Tribal Head Start.
- Will attend and complete mandatory sexual abuse intervention training.
- Shall create a community liaison system for the purpose of planning and coordinating of resources and appropriate health care professionals.
- Shall facilitate and advocate a service plan for individuals who present as at-risk/suicidal.
- Create a component system for the promotion and maintenance of health and mental health provision of preventive, remedial and rehabilitative measures.
- Assists in the administration of the Department’s Social Work Program; participates in the establishment of policy; assists in program planning and establishment of standards of practice.
- Ability to work effectively with others for timely job completion.
- Independently formulates treatment plans.
- Serves as consultant to staff and other groups.
- Integrates new programs with other disciplines.
- Provides in-service training programs for other service providers, such as nursing, nutrition, alcoholism treatment, education and child welfare.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative working relations with community agencies, schools and courts.
- Plans and attends meetings, seminars and conferences; and conducts group presentations. Prepares and performs work related to these tasks.
- Charts client files and forwards billing charges to appropriate biller in a timely manner, in accordance with written DHHS procedure.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
