Job Description

Select Specialty Hospital - Milwaukee (St. Luke's Campus) is a 29 bed facility that combines the specialized expertise of a large hospital with the personalized attention of a smaller setting.

POSITION SUMMARY

 Using discretion and independent judgement, the Registered Respiratory Therapist performs quality patient care as a member of the Respiratory Team, providing intensive respiratory care and patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed and with minimal supervision.  This position does provide direct patient care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.  This position is required to use independent discretion and judgement with respect to supervisory and management decisions and recommendations. This position does provide direct and indirect patient care to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

 This position requires a Registered Respiratory Therapist by the NBRC.  Must be licensed by the State as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, and must successfully complete orientation to general and rehabilitation aspects of respiratory care, demonstrating competency in each specialized area. Must possess a level of clinical expertise, including an understanding of the adult/pediatric patient’s condition, determine appropriate care, deliver emergency care as needed, and verbalize the indication and rationale for therapy with the attending physician.  Must possess the interpersonal skills to interact effectively  
with patient/family members, visitors, and personnel of other facilities.  Must  have the ability to interpret blood gases and manipulate ventilator parameters to attain therapeutic goals as per physician orders.  Must be able to budget time to complete patient workload according to the physician-prescribed schedule.  Must be able to document effectively in the patient record all patient assessment and therapy.  Must be able to perform pulmonary initial evaluation.  Work may require weekend hours and taking call in addition to regularly scheduled work hours.  Work requires prolonged walking and standing (over 90% of work time); lifting some heavy equipment is required in-house and during transport.  Must attend and interact in team interdisciplinary conferences.  CPR certification is required.  ACLS is preferred.
