Become a Dental Technician:

The Navy dental technician plays an important role in maintaining the health and well-being of Navy personnel. This specialist is primarily responsible for assisting in dental work and administering dental hygiene. Other responsibilities include making dental X-rays and performing administrative duties. A dental technician may also qualify to work in the dental prosthetic lab and maintain and repair dental equipment.

 

Nearly every Navy enlisted soldier undergoes eight weeks of basic training, which consists of basic skills needed for Navy activities. Advanced individual training is usually required for specialization. The length of time needed for advanced training varies depending on the area of specialization.

 

The ideal candidate for a Navy dental technician should:

  • Have a scientific background or interest
  • Have normal color vision
  • Be able to handle dental tools
  • Have good communications skills
  • Have a good attention span while doing repetitive tasks
