Surgical Assistants are a good start for entry into health care field

Hey I was reading an article in the Chicago Tribune just a few weeks ago and it said that Surgical Assistants are the way to go for entry into the health care industry. Just wanted to get some peoples opinions on that statement.

Do you think that Surgical Assistants are the way to go to get in?

    Thanks

    Re: Surgical Assistants

Nicolas that's a really good question, I found some information as far as what Surgical Assistants do vs. Surgical Technicians here; http://www.allalliedhealthschools.com/faqs/surgical-assistant.php

It seems it's a pretty good entry level and then from there you can become a Certified Surgical Technologist which can increase your pay.  the way I've read it, it looks like surgical assistants is pretty much the way to go if you want to be specialized in surgery.

Hope that helps a little and hopefully we'll get someone else to respond who is more versed in the ins and outs of the different healthcare career paths.

    Re: Surgical Assistant

Hey Rosie, thanks for the response. That is a really good article that you found there. Really breaks down not only Surgical Assistants but the related positions out there. Good find.

Yeah maybe someone out there in the actual shoes of a Surgical Assistant would be able to give some first hand feedback and stories.

     Thanks again for the response.

    Surgical Assistant Tasks

Can someone tell me if it would be normal for a surgical assistant to perform a duty such as massaging the heart of a patient during a procedure?
