FDA and Rx Drugs II
Hello Rosie,
Thanks for the information; it really make me think about an old situation I'd experienced. Needless to say, I had to read the FDA article just now. I guess it can feel like "big brother" is getting into the medication business too much, but I've had concerns in the past over meds getting approved and then never monitored.
When I was a medical sales rep for declotting devices, our biggest competitor on the medicine side of the business was Urokinase. At the time, the largest producer of this product experienced a recall - after it was determined by the FDA that the cells used in its manufacturing were contaminated. Unfortunately, the product had been in circulation for years. It seemed the radiaiton process utilized on the cells worked effectively on blood cells, but not smooth tissue cells that were used in the product. Therefore, patients with weakened immune systems were exposed to tropical diseases and AIDS.

RE: FDA and Rx Drugs II
Denise,
Good point! I guess there is some need for monitoring of drugs. I guess even with over the counter drugs, things change all the time. (The whole deal with kids and what was it Benadryl or IBProfen or something.) Thanks for adding to the discussion!
